The money raised from this event directly supports the Orange County Council Boy Scouts of America through the Friends of Scouting campaign. The Orange County Council supports the youth of Orange County and their direct units by offering training opportunities, support, needed materials to recruit and district events. The Council also has four properties for the youth for example, Oso Lake, Newport Sea Base, Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley, and our newest property the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center.<br />

<a title="2012 Preliminary Camporee Guide" href="/files/V1_Preliminary_Camporee_Leader's_Guide.pdf" target="_blank">Attached</a> is the most current Leadership Guide for this year&#8217;s Camporee!<br />
We hope you all take time to understand the rules and see what is<br />
planned for this year.</p>
<p>Please reply whether or not your unit plans on coming this year so we<br />
can accommodate properly.</p>
<p>Lastly, the Camporee staff offers to promote this event at your<br />
meetings. It is by no means mandatory to have us visit,<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Den leaders and parents, we are pleased to announce that we have<br />
made reservations for an overnight &#8220;camp&#8221; at the Queen Mary in Long<br />
Beach from Saturday early evening, March 10th to Sunday morning, March<br />
11th. This schedule should hopefully not interfere with any Little<br />
League baseball games.<br />
This event is open to all Scouts and their<br />
families. The cost is $35 per person (adults and children are the same<br />
price). The price includes 2 tours (the Educational Tour and the Russian<br />
submarine &#8220;Scorpion&#8221;) and an all you can eat buffet breakfast on Sunday<br />
morning (breakfast includes, cereals, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, sausage,<br />
bacon, waffles, pastries, juices, milk, coffee, etc). The cost does not<br />
include dinner on Saturday night. You can either bring sandwiches, etc<br />
with you or eat on board the ship (Promenade Cafe or Hollywood Deli).</p>
<p>Also, there are other tours available if you have time but you would<br />
have to pay for them separately. Additional information can be found on<br />
the Queen Mary website (www.queenmary.com). We will be sleeping as a<br />
group in the spacious &#8220;Capstan Room&#8221; with its own private deck located<br />
at the stern of the ship. You will need to bring a sleeping bag, air<br />
mattress, etc.<br />
To guaranty yourself a spot, please e-mail me the names of each<br />
person in your family that will be attending and mail or drop off a<br />
check, made payable to &#8220;Pack 227&#8243;. For those of you with scouts that<br />
attend St. Bonaventure, you can drop off your check (in an envelope marked<br />
&#8220;Pack<br />
227&#8243;) to the school office. This event will probably sell out so make<br />
your reservation early.</p>

This event will be hosted by Den 6.</p>
<p>All scouts are asked to bake a cake, preferably with their parent and<br />
bring it to the pack meeting to auction them off.</p>
<p>This is an opportunity for you &amp; your scout to design, bake and<br />
decorate a cake together.</p>

Judge&#8217;s Choice</p>
<p>The Pack meeting will start at 6:30pm and Ramon Perez will be there at<br />
5:30pm if families want to drop off their cakes early. The scouts will<br />
place their cakes on their respective den tables.</p>
<p>Each den will pick the best cake from their table to be placed on the<br />
live auction table and these cakes will be auctioned off during the last<br />
half of the evening. All the other cakes will be part of the silent<br />
auction and there will be bid sheets for this on each den table. There<br />
will also be slips of paper for the scouts to identify their cakes.</p>
<p>Winners will pay for their cakes that night by cash or check and will<br />
take their cakes home that evening.</p>
<p>We would like ALL cakes to sell so please keep an eye on bid sheets<br />
and consider bidding, if a cake looks like it might not sell.</p>
<p>This is a fundraiser for the pack so please &#8220;Do Your Best&#8221;.</p>
<p>Feel free to invite friends and family to see &amp; bid on the cakes.</p>

<p>Pinewood Derby Rules  Pack 227</p>
<p>ALL CARS MUST PASS INSPECTION TO QUALIFY FOR THE RACE</p>
<p>1. The car weight shall not exceed 5.0 ounces. The official race scale<br />
shall be considered final.<br />
2. The overall length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches<br />
3. The overall width of the car shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches<br />
4. The car must have 1 ¾ inches clearance between the wheels<br />
5. The car must have 3/8 inch clearance underneath the body<br />
6. The wood provided in the kit must be used. The block may be shaped<br />
any way that is desired.<br />
7. The wheels supplied with the kit must be used. The wheels may not<br />
be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seam from the<br />
wheels.<br />
8. The axis supplied in the kit must be used. They may be polished or<br />
lubricated.<br />
9. Wheels bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited<br />
10. The car may not ride on any type of springs<br />
11. The car must be freewheeling with no starting devices<br />
12. No loose material of any kind may be used. Weights may be added,<br />
but must be securely fixed<br />
13. Repairs to the cars must be done prior to final inspection. If<br />
repair is necessary after final inspection, car must be inspected again<br />
before racing</p>
<p>Each car must pass inspection by the official committee before it will be<br />
allowed to compete. The inspection committee has the responsibility to<br />
disqualify those cars that do not meet these specifications.</p>

Williams or Jen Selcho by Friday<br />
October 7th. This is to participate in the January 2012 ceremony.<span id="more-288"></span></p>
<p>Please remember to meet with a priest and have them sign off on the<br />
booklet. Complete the Application form (do not worry about the<br />
Religious Emblems Coordinator signature nor the Cubmaster signature &#8211;<br />
we will take care of that).</p>
<p>If your scout has not finished their book &amp; you do not think he will<br />
before<br />
the deadline, that is fine &#8212; he can continue to work on it and take<br />
part in the January 2013 ceremony.</p>
<p>Just a reminder &#8212; the Light of Christ Book is for 1st &amp; 2nd graders (Tigers &amp; Wolves).<br />
Must be completed by the end of 2nd grade, if the scout wants to receive the<br />
award and participate in the ceremony.</p>
<p>The Parvuli Dei Book is for 3rd, 4th &amp; 5th graders (Bears &amp; Webelos).<br />
Must be completed by the time they bridge to Boys Scouts (Feb. of<br />
5th grade) if the scout wants to receive the award and participate in<br />
the ceremony.</p>
<p>If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Williams<br />
or Jen Selcho.</p>
<p>You are welcome to give the completed Light of Christ or Parvuli Dei<br />
booklets to either Lisa or Jen at SBS drop-off in the AM or pick-up in<br />
the PM. There is also a box/basket on the front porch of Lisa Williams<br />
home &#8212; you are welcome to drop off the completed booklet at your<br />
convenience.</p>
